Today, 64 companies and (knowledge) organisations from the Dutch chip industry present their innovation program to the Dutch Minister Beljaarts of Economic Affairs. The sector aims to further strengthen the strong position that the Netherlands holds globally in semiconductors. After all, international developments in the semiconductor industry are advancing rapidly.

Demcon has entered into a collaboration with TNO and the University of Twente to accelerate the development of low‑energy silicon nitride (SiN) photonic chips. By combining expertise in integrated photonics, thin‑film deposition equipment and applied research, we aim to advance photonic chip technology that enables faster, more energy‑efficient applications in areas such as data communication, medical diagnostics and autonomous systems.

Technology developer and manufacturer Demcon has acquired SeQso, based in Apeldoorn, as of January 1. SeQso designs and builds sorting and sowing machines for seed breeders across Europe, Asia, and America as part of Demcon, SeQso now has the competences to make its machines more precise, faster, and smarter. Additionally, the two companies will collaborate to develop new solutions for further automation in seed breeding, aiming to contribute to global food security, which is increasingly under pressure due to population growth and climate change.

A consortium of Dutch technology companies – DEMCON, Thorizon, and VDL Group – signed a project agreement last December. Their shared mission: to achieve a breakthrough in the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), specifically molten salt reactors. These innovative nuclear reactors promise a safe, scalable, and sustainable contribution to the energy transition.

PAMI-1 is the first in a series of satellites to strengthen Dutch space capabilities FSO Instruments and partners will develop, build and launch a satellite for the Netherlands’ Armed Forces to be launched in 2027. The satellite, PAMI-1, will support intelligence gathering for the Netherlands by offering a sovereign capability to monitor earth from space. PAMI-1 will also demonstrate laser satellite communication technology that provides fast and secure transfer of information, back to a ground station as well as to other satellites.
